Andrea Plant Purifier Review

We first saw this plant air purifier at the invention awards in 2008. Today its available for less than $200 at Amazon.com.

This purifier will use any houseplant to purifier your air of pollen, dust and even household chemicals such as benzene and formaldehyde. The purifier uses fans to pull in air from outside that is then pushed through the plants natural filtration system and pollutants are removed from the leaves, roots and even the soil. Once the pollutants have been removed they are then pushed back outside.

In tests it was shown that 80% of the airs formaldehyde content was removed after only 1 hour of the purifier running! Formaldehyde is a toxin that is now found in many new upholstery and carpets and is known to cause a number of illnesses and problems.

This purifier was created by a company called Le Laboratoire and is expected to become a best seller among people who are looking for a green way to remove air pollutants.

The only problem we had with our unit was the amount of noise created by the fans. I hope that in future versions the fans will be less noisy.  I like that you can use your own plant but as recommended we chose to go with a plant that had good filtration so put in an aloe Vera plant. It’s also worth noting that the air seems to smell a lot better after running the purifier for a couple of hours.
